Kate Saunders works primarily in relief printing techniques, such as woodcut and linoprint which explore two focus areas: urban environments on a human level, such as street scenes and architecture, and the natural environment. Her most recent work has focused on the relationship between the built and human environment intersects and interacts with nature. Many of her linoprints focus on everyday street scenes from city life and the architecture of the city, primarily from Copenhagen.
She leads and organises linoprinting and creative workshops, with many used as a vehicle to teach participants about non-human species and nature, as well as for a dialogue tool to assess our impact on our natural environment and different species. Both linoprinting and woodblock printing provide an opportunity to work with a tactile material to create a clear and stark graphical result. This feels increasingly important in an age where digital processes and approaches have many trapped behind a screen.
